• Roy Gorge

This is one of the best sections of white water I have done in the UK, a great technical grade 4, combined with the Upper section makes for a superb day at the right levels.

A bit of snow melt and a small amount of rain was enough to produce enough water for the Roy to be an option today. A superb run as per usual from wish you were here right through the gorge and down the lower. I now have to confess to my first swim since the Nile. I got a boat out into an eddy and stepped out of my boat to pull it onto the bank. A slight poor judgement call left me with neither my boat nor the one I was rescuing and no choice but to swim down after them. Oh the shame of it.

With the complete lack of water anywhere in the region we turned to the gorges in the hope of some entertainment. The first few rapids were simply too low to run, and the whole gorge was a bit of a bump and scrape. Despite this it was fun although not a patch on what this section can be like.

I have run this section several times previously and have really enjoyed it.
